Penang 4 Days 3 Nights Itinerary: Day-by-Day Plan With Food, Beach and Hills
Last updated: October 2026

This Penang 4 days 3 nights itinerary builds on our Penang 3D2N itinerary by adding a full Day 3 for Batu Ferringhi or Balik Pulau and moving departure to Day 4. Days 1 and 2 are identical to the shorter plan: George Town heritage and street art on Day 1, Kek Lok Si Temple and Penang Hill on Day 2. The extra day gives you time for a beach break, water sports, durian tasting or countryside cycling without cutting into the George Town experience.
Every stop lists arrival time, cost and travel time to the next location. All hours and prices were verified in October 2026. For transport details, see our getting around Penang guide.

Day 3: Batu Ferringhi or Balik Pulau
This is the day that sets the 4D3N apart from the 3D2N itinerary. You have two options. Option A is a beach and night-market day at Batu Ferringhi. Option B is a countryside and food day at Balik Pulau. Pick whichever matches your mood.
Option A: Batu Ferringhi (Beach and Night Market)

9:00 am -- Take Rapid Penang bus 101 from Komtar to Batu Ferringhi (RM2.70, 45 minutes) or Grab (RM25-30, 25 minutes). The beach stretches for over a kilometre with soft sand and warm water.

Afternoon (12 Pm - 5 Pm)
12:30 pm -- Lunch at Long Beach Cafe along Jalan Batu Ferringhi. Grilled seafood platters run RM30-60. Nasi goreng and fried noodles cost RM8-12.
2:00 pm -- Walk to the Tropical Spice Garden (10 minutes from the main beach strip). Entry: RM35 for adults. Guided tours run hourly and take 45 minutes through over 500 tropical plant species. A cooking class is available for RM150 if booked in advance.

Evening (6 Pm - 10 Pm)
6:30 pm -- Walk to the Batu Ferringhi Night Market, which sets up along Jalan Batu Ferringhi from about 7 pm. Browse locally made crafts, clothing, souvenirs and food stalls. Prices are negotiable on non-food items.
8:00 pm -- Catch a fire show on the beach. Performers set up near Ferringhi Bay and Frandys Beach Bar most evenings from 8 pm onwards. Free to watch; tip the performers.
9:00 pm -- Grab back to George Town (RM25-30, 25 minutes) or stay overnight at a Batu Ferringhi hotel.
Option B: Balik Pulau (Countryside, Durian and Laksa)
Morning (9 Am - 12 Pm)
9:00 am -- Grab to Balik Pulau town (RM30-40 from George Town, 35 minutes). The route crosses the island through hilly terrain and rubber plantations.
9:45 am -- Breakfast at Nan Guang coffee shop in Balik Pulau town. The laksa here uses a slightly different recipe from George Town, with a fishier, more concentrated broth. A bowl costs RM5-7. Pair it with a kopi-o.
10:30 am -- Visit a durian farm if you are travelling between June and August. Bao Sheng Durian Farm offers walk-in tastings for RM30-60 per person depending on durian availability and variety. Musang King and Red Prawn are the star varieties. Outside durian season, visit the Saanen Dairy Goat Farm instead (free entry, goat milk RM5-8 per glass).
Afternoon (12 Pm - 5 Pm)
12:30 pm -- Lunch at one of the roadside stalls along the main Balik Pulau road. Try mee goreng or nasi kandar. RM6-10 per plate.

3:00 pm -- Cycle through the paddy fields and orchard roads if you rented a bicycle (RM15-20 per day from shops in Balik Pulau town). The flat countryside loop takes about 1.5 hours.
4:30 pm -- Grab back to George Town (RM30-40, 35 minutes).
Evening (6 Pm - 10 Pm)

Afternoon (12 Pm - 3 Pm)
12:00 pm -- Walk to Him Heang on Jalan Burma (15 minutes or Grab RM6). Buy tau sar piah (flaky mung bean biscuits, RM16 per box of 16 pieces). This is the most popular souvenir food from Penang.
12:30 pm -- Head to Chowrasta Market on Jalan Penang (Grab RM6 or walk 15 minutes). Browse pickled nutmeg, dried goods and local snacks on the ground floor. The upstairs second-hand book section is worth a quick look.
1:30 pm -- Final meal: light lunch at a hawker stall near your hotel, or a last coffee at Norm Micro Roastery on Church Street Ghaut.
2:30 pm -- Collect luggage. Grab to Penang International Airport (RM25-35, 30 minutes). Arrive 2 hours before your flight.
Swap-ins If It Rains
Day 1 or 4 (George Town): Duck into the Pinang Peranakan Mansion or the Penang State Museum (Lebuh Farquhar, free entry). ChinaHouse's long interior provides shelter and cake for an hour or two.
Day 2 (Penang Hill): The funicular runs in light rain, but heavy downpour wipes out summit views. Swap for a cafe crawl along Beach Street and Chulia Street, or visit Entopia butterfly farm in Teluk Bahang (RM65 adults, indoor butterfly enclosure).
Day 3 (Batu Ferringhi or Balik Pulau): If rain cancels beach plans, switch to Penang War Museum at Batu Maung (RM30, mostly covered tunnels and bunkers). If Balik Pulau is washed out, spend the day in George Town visiting Khoo Kongsi, Hainan Temple and the Batik Painting Museum (RM20).
If You Have an Extra Day
Five days opens up a full-day trip to Penang National Park in Teluk Bahang. Hike 90 minutes to Monkey Beach for a swim, or take a boat (RM50 return) to Kerachut Beach to see the turtle hatchery. Entry to the national park is free with registration at the counter. Another option is a half day at Tropical Fruit Farm in Teluk Bahang (RM35 entry with fruit tasting) followed by lunch at one of the Teluk Bahang seafood restaurants.
Penang 4D3N Itinerary: Frequently Asked Questions
Is 4 days enough for Penang?
Four days is the sweet spot. Days 1 and 2 cover George Town's heritage core, street art and hawker food. Day 3 lets you escape to either Batu Ferringhi's beach and night market or Balik Pulau's countryside and durian farms. Day 4 wraps up with the Blue Mansion tour, souvenirs and departure. You will not feel rushed.
Should I choose Batu Ferringhi or Balik Pulau for Day 3?
Pick Batu Ferringhi if you want a beach day with parasailing, jet skiing and a night market. Pick Balik Pulau if you prefer countryside scenery, durian farms (June to August season) and Nan Guang laksa. Batu Ferringhi is easier to reach by public bus (routes 101 and 102, RM2.70). Balik Pulau needs a Grab (RM30-40 each way) or scooter.
How much does a 4-day Penang trip cost?
Budget travellers can manage RM150-250 per day. Mid-range is RM300-500 per day. The extra night adds RM80-350 for accommodation. Batu Ferringhi water sports cost RM50-100 per activity. Balik Pulau durian tasting runs RM30-60 per person at most farms. Hawker meals across Penang average RM6-12 per plate.
Can I combine this with a Kuala Lumpur trip?
Yes. The ETS train from Butterworth to KL Sentral takes about 4 hours and costs RM60-112 depending on the service class. Flights from Penang to KL take 50 minutes and cost RM50-130. See our combined Penang and Kuala Lumpur 7-day itinerary for a full plan.
