About Koon Kee Coffee
Koon Kee is a traditional Penang coffee manufacturer with over 70 years of history, producing the kind of coffee powder used in the island's old-school kopitiam (coffee shops). Their blends are darker and more robust than white coffee — roasted with sugar and margarine in the traditional Hainanese style. A 500g bag of ground coffee starts around RM12.
Koon Kee coffee is available at selected supermarkets and grocery stores in George Town, as well as through their own distribution channels. This is the product to buy if you want to recreate an authentic Penang kopitiam coffee at home using a cloth filter or sock drip method. It pairs well with condensed milk for a proper kopi. Less well-known to tourists than Coffee Tree, but more respected among local coffee drinkers.

Koon Kee is a heritage Penang coffee brand that roasts beans the traditional way with sugar and margarine. The kopi-O powder (RM12 per pack) brews a thick, fragrant cup. Available at several stockists around George Town.

Picked up two packs of their white coffee blend and one kopi-O from a George Town retailer. The aroma when you open the packet is intense — proper old-school kopitiam smell. Makes a great gift for anyone who appreciates Malaysian coffee.

We have been drinking Koon Kee at home for years. The traditional roast has a caramel sweetness that commercial brands cannot replicate. From RM12 per pack, it is excellent value for artisan-quality coffee.

My in-laws in Penang introduced us to Koon Kee and now we order it every trip. The grind is fine and suited for sock filter (kopi sock) brewing. Rich, bold flavour with low acidity. A genuine local treasure.

Not as well-known as OldTown or Ah Huat but far superior in taste. Ask at any traditional kopitiam which coffee they use and many will say Koon Kee. The packaging is basic but the coffee inside is the real deal.
