About La Vie En Rose Patisserie
La Vie en Rose Patisserie sits in a quiet shophouse on Lebuh Melayu, a few streets back from the busier tourist corridors. The pastry chef trained in French techniques, and it shows in the entremets, tarts and choux pastries arranged in the glass display. The lemon tart has a clean, sharp filling inside crisp pate sucree. The entremet cakes — layered mousse and sponge constructions — look like they belong in a Parisian vitrine and taste precise rather than overly sweet.
Individual pastries run RM10 to RM16. Whole cakes and entremets are available by pre-order for RM60 and above. The shop is closed on Monday and opens from 10:30 am to 7 pm on other days, though popular items tend to sell out by mid-afternoon on weekends. The interior is small, with a handful of tables. Most visitors take away rather than dine in. If you want a specific cake, call ahead at +60 14-333 6480 to confirm availability.

The tarte au citron was a perfect balance of sweet and tart in a flaky pastry crust. The French chef-owner was behind the glass counter when we visited. You could easily walk past the shop as the front is small, but inside it opens up with a huge selection of pastries.

The beignets were soft and fluffy with generous raspberry filling that was perfectly sweet and sour. They have vanilla custard, coffee, hojicha, matcha and nutella fillings too. The croissants had nice layering with a satisfying crackling texture. Prices are slightly higher but justified.

Lovely little French patisserie on Malay Street. The desserts are among the best I have tried in Malaysia. The staff are very friendly and the presentation of every item is beautiful. It is a small space so there may be limited seating during peak hours.

We tried the lemon tart and the matcha beignet. Both were superb. The lemon tart had a tangy citrus punch with a delicate crust, and the beignet was pillowy soft. The patisserie is rated 4.6 on TripAdvisor and it is easy to see why.

A wonderful French patisserie in the heart of George Town. Everything looks like edible art. The hojicha beignet was our favourite — warm, soft dough with a fragrant filling. Worth the trip even if you are staying elsewhere on the island.
