About Narrow Marrow
Narrow Marrow reopened on Beach Street as a larger, less cramped version of its original incarnation. The tiramisu (RM18) remains the signature and one of the better versions in George Town — layered properly, not too sweet and served in a generous portion. Espresso drinks are good, and the evening cocktail list is short but well-chosen.
Opening only from 3 pm, this is an afternoon-to-evening cafe rather than a breakfast spot. The space works well for a post-dinner dessert stop. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Street parking is limited on this stretch of Beach Street; walk from Weld Quay or the KOMTAR area instead.
What to Order at Narrow Marrow
Narrow Marrow offers a menu that changes with seasonal ingredients and availability. Below are the typical items you can expect. Prices are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM) and may vary.
- Signature dish (RM15–25) — The house specialty and most popular order. Ask staff for the day's recommendation if it rotates.
- Set meal (RM20–35) — A main course paired with a drink. Good value for a full meal.
- Drinks (RM5–15) — Coffee, tea, fresh juice and soft drinks. Specialty coffees cost slightly more.
- Dessert (RM8–18) — Daily selection that changes regularly. Worth asking what's freshly made.

The blue pea flower cheesecake was beautiful to look at and tasted even better. The bohemian, laid-back vibe is perfect for spending an afternoon reading or chatting. Board games are available and you can stay as long as you like.

Quirky little cafe-bar on Carnarvon Street. The toddy (fermented coconut drink) had a nice zing. Their black coffee is excellent — one of the best we tried in Penang. Cakes are creative but a bit pricey. Limited menu for food beyond the cheesecakes.

The tiramisu was rich and the smoothies were refreshing. Chilled atmosphere with a boho-style decor and a small selection of creative light bites. The kind of place where you settle in with a book and lose track of time. Highly recommended.

Nice space with character. Service can be slow when it is busy, but the relaxed vibe means nobody is rushing you. The cheesecakes are the main draw — the flavours rotate so there is usually something new. Good coffee too.

Found this place on Carnarvon Street and it became our go-to afternoon stop. The iced latte was smooth and the cheesecake portions were generous. A genuine, unpretentious cafe that deserves more attention.
