About Yut Kee Restaurant
Yut Kee is a heritage Hainanese kopitiam that has been serving KL since 1928. Now run by the third generation, the restaurant occupies a corner shophouse on Jalan Kamunting near Chow Kit. The menu is a time capsule of Hainanese-adapted Western dishes: pork chop (RM12.50), roti babi (pork-stuffed deep-fried bread, RM10), Hainanese chicken chop, hailam mee and lam mee.
The roasted pork roll is only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and it sells out fast. The marble butter cake and kaya swiss roll are worth ordering alongside your coffee. Average spend is around RM20 per person including a drink. Yut Kee closes at 4 pm, so this is a breakfast or lunch stop only. Seating fills by 9 am on weekends. The kopitiam is a 10-minute walk from Chow Kit monorail station. Cash and card accepted.

The Hainanese chicken chop is a must — breaded and pan-fried to a golden crust, served with brown gravy, peas and chips. It is old-school comfort food at its best. The roti babi (pork-stuffed fried bread) at RM10 is another winner. Under RM25 for a full meal including a kopi.

Came on a Saturday for the roasted pork roll, which is only available Friday to Sunday. It was sold out by 10:30 am so we settled for the chicken chop and marble butter cake instead. Both were excellent — the cake is dense and buttery with a perfect swirl. Come early if you want the pork roll.

The heritage kopitiam atmosphere is as much a draw as the food. Marble-top tables, old ceiling fans and tiled floors that have not changed since 1928. The hailam mee (braised noodles in thick gravy) was hearty and the lam mee was good. The place closes at 4 pm, so plan for breakfast or lunch only.

The kaya swiss roll and marble butter cake are both worth ordering alongside your main. I had the pork chop at RM12.50 — a thick cutlet with brown gravy that tasted exactly like what your grandmother might have served. Two of us spent RM40 total including drinks.

A KL institution for a reason. The chicken chop and roti babi are the essential orders. The coffee is traditional Hainanese style — thick and strong. Seating fills by 9 am on weekends so arrive early. The restaurant is about 10 minutes on foot from Chow Kit monorail station.
