About Kim Lian Kee Hokkien Mee
Kim Lian Kee has been frying Hokkien mee on Jalan Petaling since 1927, making it one of KL's longest-running hawker stalls. KL-style Hokkien mee is nothing like the Singaporean or Penang version. The thick yellow noodles are stir-fried in dark soy sauce with pork lard, prawns, cabbage and squid until they take on a deep caramel colour and a smoky, slightly sweet flavour.
A regular plate costs around RM12, and the large portion runs to RM18. Portions are generous. Add a fried egg on top (RM2) for the full experience. The stall opens at 5:30 pm and runs until 2 am, making it a solid late-night option after a Petaling Street evening walk. Seating is on plastic stools alongside the road. Cash only. The stall also has a branch inside Lot 10 Hutong for those who prefer an air-conditioned setting.

The KL-style Hokkien mee here is the real deal — thick yellow noodles fried in dark soy with pork lard, prawns and squid. The caramelised colour and smoky sweetness are completely different from any Hokkien mee I have had in Singapore or Penang. RM12 for the regular size.

Been coming to Kim Lian Kee for years and the recipe has not changed since they started in 1927. I always add a fried egg on top for RM2 — the runny yolk mixes into the dark noodles perfectly. Go for the large portion at RM18 if you are hungry.

Good Hokkien mee but expect to eat on plastic stools by the roadside. The noodles were well-fried with a proper wok hei flavour. The prawns were fresh and the squid tender. Cash only. Not the most comfortable setting but the food makes up for it.

Came at 8 pm on a Saturday and there was a short wait. The Hokkien mee was worth it — the dark soy sauce gave the noodles a deep savoury flavour and the pork lard added crunch. This is street food at its best. Pair it with a cold drink from the stall next door.

Solid late-night option after walking Petaling Street. The stall is open until 2 am. My plate of Hokkien mee had a good char and the noodles soaked up the dark soy. Seating is basic and it can be noisy, but for RM12 this is exactly what you want.
