About Thean Hou Temple

Thean Hou Temple is a six-tiered Chinese temple built on a hill in Robson Heights, about 15 minutes by Grab from the city centre. Completed in 1987 by the Hainanese community, the temple blends Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian elements across its prayer halls, gardens and terraces. The hilltop location gives clear views of the KL skyline, particularly at dusk.

Entry is free, though donations are welcomed. The temple is open from 8 am to 8 pm daily, with extended hours during Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival when the grounds are decorated with thousands of lanterns. The main prayer hall on the upper tier features shrines to Tian Hou (Goddess of the Sea), Guan Yin and Shui Wei Sheng Niang. Plan 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to walk all six levels and enjoy the panoramic terrace. There is no rail station nearby, so Grab is the practical option. Parking is free on-site for those with a car.
