About Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad

Masjid Jamek is the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur, completed in 1909. Designed by Arthur Benison Hubback in a Mughal-inspired style, the mosque sits at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers, the exact spot where tin prospectors founded the city in 1857. The three onion domes, brick-and-plaster arcades and a palm-lined courtyard make it one of the most photogenic buildings in KL.

Non-Muslim visitors are welcome during set visiting windows: 10 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 to 4:30 pm daily. The mosque is closed to non-Muslim visitors on Fridays and during Islamic holy days. Dress modestly with long sleeves and covered legs. Free gowns and headscarves are available at the entrance. A free guided tour can be requested at the front desk. The Masjid Jamek LRT station is directly adjacent, making this one of the most accessible heritage sites in the city. After visiting, walk across the river to Merdeka Square or south to Central Market.
